Zhenhua Chen (former CREATE postdoc and current Research Fellow) has received the Geoffrey Hewings Award for Outstanding Young Scholar from the North American Regional Science Council of the Regional Science Association International. The award honors scholars for outstanding research within 10 years of PhD completion.
Dr. Chen is an Associate Professor in the Knowlton School of Architecture Administration at The Ohio State University. A PhD graduate in Public Policy from George Mason University, Dr. Chen served as a post-doctoral scholar at CREATE from 2014 to 2016. He has continued his research begun at CREATE with Adam Rose and Dan Wei, analyzing the economic consequences of disasters, as well as researching high-speed rail systems, transportation infrastructure investment and economic resilience.
Upon receipt of the Hewings Award, Dr. Chen stated: “I am humbled and honored. I am inspired to continue advancing regional science through high-impact research, and maintaining a high standard in mentoring students, just as my advisors did for me." Dr. Chen went on to say, “I am grateful for my postdoc experiences at CREATE. The training and work experience helped me grow as a scholar as I developed collaborative partnerships with my CREATE mentors.”
