Dynamic Vaccine Allocation for Control of Human Transmissible Disease

USC Phd Graduate Mingdong Lyu, along with co-authors Randolph Hall (CREATE Director) and alumni Chang Chang and Kuofu Liu have published their new paper in the journal Vaccines. Based on research conducted among CREATE students, the papers develops techniques for dynamic allocation of vaccines among locations and age groups to reduce the spread of disease and deaths. The paper focuses on the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, when vaccines initially became available and were in short supply. The work combines dynamic compartmental disease modeling with search techniques at improving allocations for increased impact. More information about CREATE’s research on COVID-19 can be found in the COVID-19 Datasource. Dr. Lyu is a postdoctoral researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado.
