Misak Avetisyan Appointed External Research Fellow at CREATE

Dr. Misak Avetisyan, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Texas Tech University, has been appointed as a CREATE External Research Fellow. Dr. Avetisyan has extensive experience in the application of the economic modeling for the assessment of resilience and direct and indirect economic consequences of man-made and natural hazards, environmental and energy economics, international trade and transportation economics, and water economics and energy security. Before joining Texas Tech, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Threats and Emergencies (CREATE) analyzing the economic impacts of man-made and natural hazards events, and homeland security issues, such as trade-offs between security and urban development and the reduction of wait times at U.S. Borders crossings.

His methodological expertise is in the development of econometric and computable general equilibrium (CGE) models. He is currently working with Professor Adam Rose on a project funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) analyzing the economic impacts of supply chain disruptions of critical military supplies. Dr. Avetisyan is also working with Professor Rose on a project to estimate the aggregate and distributional impacts of a major cyber-attack on the U.S. banking system.

Previously, Dr. Avetisyan worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on the development of CO2 and other pollutant emissions databases for the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) model and used these datasets for analyzing the impact of climate change policies on emissions from passenger and freight transportation, trade in goods and services, as well as the environmental impact of current trade patterns that affect climate change through production and transport related emissions.

Dr. Avetisyan’s research has been published in journals such as Risk Analysis, Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, Transport Policy, Economics of Transportation, Research in Transportation Economics, Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Energy Economics, and Environmental and Resource Economics.
